8-IF THE SUN DISAPPEARED TODAY, HOW LONG WOULD IT TAKE BEFORE EARTH WAS UNINHABITABLE ?

The Sun is the only star in our Solar System. But, what would happen if it, suddenly, disappears?

We would notice it 8 minutes 20 seconds later after it disappears (as you know, light from the sun takes a short period of time to reach the Earth)

Then, darkness would cover the whole planet and people would start to get stressed and nervous. Some hours later, the Earth would float through space without being pulled by gravity, as the other planets, so collisions between them would be possible.

Humans (who live in houses that cannot resist temp. below -100ºC) would die due to the low temperatures and the lack of food and electricity, while some bacteria would survive.

LETS TALK ABOUT TIME

* Within the first 2 days the air temp. would be so low that no moisture could remain in it.

* Within 4 days all the Earth´s greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere would have turned to liquids or solids, cooling the Earth.

* Within one week all land areas would be frozen .

* In less than a year ( and with a temp. of -140ºC ) oceans would freeze and most animals and plants would die when the atmosphere liquefies.

TIME WE WOULD SURVIVE

Basically, we wouldn´t survive more than one year, but some life would continue at hydrothermal vents on the sea bottom.

HOW COULD WE SURVIVE?

Also, people think we could survive in artificial indoor greenhouses and eating the vegetables we could grow in them. The problem with these vegetables is the water. We couldn´t have liquid water without heat from the Sun. So we would probably die with the lack of water, meat and fish.
